Pulmonology & PFT

Life is measured by the number of breaths we take. But when we have a problem in our respiratory track, every breath becomes an effort. Even small tasks like climbing a staircase or taking a walk may become painful. This is where pulmonologists (lung specialists) step in to take care of our lungs – the centre point of our breathing.

Our Pulmonologists with great clinical expertise, experience and state of art equipment, help in a perfect diagnosis and treat various ailments like bronchial asthma, tuberculosis, lung fibrosis, pneumonia, lung cancer and respiratory emergencies like ARDS / acute asthma/ hemoptysis (large quantity of blood in sputum), etc

Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is an endoscopic procedure to examine the breathing tubes from inside. A bronchoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube, is inserted in nose or the mouth and passed down from the throat to the airways. It has a light and a camera.

It helps the pulmonologist:

  • To rule out cancerous tumours in the lungs
  • To obtain secretions to diagnose an infection and get samples for culture
  • To remove foreign bodies from breathing tubes
  • As a therapy for removing thick secretions when patient can not cough out
